As you may be aware, the BWG Public Library and CUPE Local 905 have been unable to reach a negotiated first collective agreement. CUPE Local 905 has commenced a strike as of 9:00 am today.
After careful consideration, the Library’s Board and Management have made the difficult decision to close the Library for all in-person services and programming during the strike period. We understand the impact this has on our residents, especially those with young children who were planning to participate in the Library’s summer programming activities. The Library’s Management team will ensure digital services (like databases and eBooks) continue to operate.
“This isn’t the road we wanted to see things go down. It is unfortunate that the bargaining teams have been unsuccessful in reaching an agreement but we remain optimistic that a mutually beneficial resolution can be reached quickly so Library workers can get back to serving our community.” – James Leduc, Mayor
The latest information and updates can be found on the Library’s Labour Relations webpage. Any further inquiries can be directed to Matthew Corbett, Library CEO or Licinio Miguelo, Library Board Chair.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation and look forward to a timely resolution and welcoming you back to the BWG Public Library.
Sincerely,
Town of BWG Council
