As the world gears up for the highly anticipated solar eclipse on April 8, safety should be residents’ number one priority when viewing a solar eclipse. Although BWG won't be in the path of totality, a partial solar eclipse is anticipated between 2:05 and 4:31 pm on April 8, reaching its peak at 3:19 pm.
A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the sun and the earth, obscuring the sun's face entirely. This rare occurrence casts a shadow across the landscape, causing the sky to darken. The last solar eclipse visible in Ontario took place in February 1979, with the next to be witnessed in Ontario in 2099.
In anticipation of the event, BWG has published a webpage to provide residents with safety tips and resources for viewing the eclipse.
