Open Air Fire Burning and Fireworks Ban

UPDATE 2023-06-1210:51:33 AM: The Open Air Fire Burning and Fireworks Ban has been lifted.

Due to current dry conditions, Bradford West Gwillimbury is under an open-air burning ban effective immediately. This ban is crucial to prioritize public safety and prevent the risk of fire during this period of increased fire danger.  

During this ban, all open-air burning and the use of fireworks are prohibited. This includes any type of outdoor fire, even if individuals possess an approved burn permit. The ban applies to cooking fires and any coal or charcoal wood/woodchip barbecue devices.  

“The decision to implement a total fire ban and fireworks ban is necessary to protect the safety and well-being of our community,” says Brent Thomas, Fire Chief of the Towns of Innisfil and Bradford West Gwillimbury. “Protecting our neighbourhoods from accidental, but devastating fires, starts with the fire ban and continues with the help of each and every BWG resident and business.”  

Cooking appliances with a mechanical shutoff, such as propane or natural gas equipment, are permitted during a fire ban. However, they must be placed on a hard surface, deck, or non-flammable area, maintaining a significant distance from any combustible materials. 

“We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and understanding,” adds Mayor James Leduc. “Some much-needed rain will provide relief but until then, imposing this fire and fireworks ban is a necessary step given the current conditions.”

The ban will remain in effect until further notice. Any updates will be communicated to the public through media and the Town’s social media channels and website.
