After completing the mandatory 90-day notification period, the second rotation of Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) cameras has been installed at four new Community Safety Zones in BWG. The new cameras will be active starting September 1.
The ASE pilot project, endorsed by Council in 2023, consists of three rotations. Each rotation introduces four new ASE locations within Community Safety Zones across BWG. The first rotation is complete, and the second rotation is now in place.
“Bringing ASE to BWG was a much-anticipated solution to help tackle speeding within our community. For many years residents have shared their concerns around traffic Safety in BWG, and the pilot program aims to help curb that. I look forward to the second rotation bringing further safety measures to another Community Safety Zone in Town.” – Mayor James Leduc
ASE is an automated system that uses a camera and a speed measurement device to detect and capture images of vehicles travelling more than the posted speed limit. The Town has partnered with Global Traffic Group Ltd. for the duration of the pilot project, to provide technology, processing solutions, and ASE expertise to BWG.
Each rotation begins with a mandatory 90-day notification period via advanced warning signs at each respective ASE location. The notification period for the second rotation (second four locations) began on June 1, 2024, followed by the operational/in-use period of four months, effective September 1, 2024, through January 1, 2025.
ASE cameras have been installed and activated at the following Community Safety Zone locations. Effective September 1, tickets will be issued to vehicle owners caught speeding in the posted areas.
1. West Park Avenue, north of Brian Collier Way.
2. Fletcher Street, between Church Street and Barrie Street.
3. Miller Park Avenue, between Angela Street and West Park Avenue.
4. Simcoe Road, north of Gibson Circle.
The ASE camera locations for the third rotation will be announced on October 1, 2024, which will kick-off the mandatory 90-day notification period at four new Community Safety Zone locations.
