After completing the mandatory 90-day notification period, “In Use” signs and Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) cameras have been installed at four Community Safety Zones in BWG and are activated effective immediately.
The ASE pilot project was endorsed by Council in October 2023 and includes a total of three rotations, with each rotation including four new ASE locations at Community Safety Zones throughout BWG.
“This pilot project is a long-awaited solution to help our municipality decrease speeding across our neighbourhood streets. Serving on Council for over two decades, I’ve heard many concerns from our residents regarding community and traffic safety – speeding continues to be the primary issue among our residents. Integrating ASE in BWG is an important step to ensure safer streets throughout our community.”
– Mayor James Leduc
ASE is an automated system that uses a camera and a speed measurement device to detect and capture images of vehicles travelling more than the posted speed limit. The Town has partnered with Global Traffic Group Ltd. for the duration of the pilot project, to provide technology, processing solutions, and ASE expertise to BWG.
Each rotation begins with a mandatory 90-day notification period via advanced warning signs at each respective ASE location. The notification period for the first rotation (first four locations) began on February 1, 2024, followed by the operational/in-use period of four months, effective May 1, 2024, through September 1, 2024.
ASE cameras have been installed and activated at the following Community Safety Zone locations. Effective immediately, tickets will be issued to vehicle owners caught speeding in the posted areas.
- Line 7, between Lallien Drive and Dixon Road.
- Holland Street West, between West Park Avenue and Professor Day Drive.
- Professor Day Drive, south of Breeze Drive and West Park Avenue.
- Simcoe Road, near Catania Avenue.
The ASE camera locations for the second rotation will be announced on June 1, 2024, which will kick-off the mandatory 90-day notification period at four new Community Safety Zone locations.
