In celebration of International Trails Day which recognizes the importance of hiking trails and promoting healthy lifestyles and outdoor recreation, the Town is proud to announce its annual Trails Day and 20th Annual Mayor’s Hike for Health.
Join Council and community members at Scanlon Creek Conservation Area on Saturday, June 10, 2023, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Learn more about Scanlon Creek on a guided hike from staff at the Lake Simcoe Conservation Authority. This free community event also features a barbeque lunch of hamburgers and hot dogs, live music, and kid-friendly activities including children’s entertainment, outdoor games, and family fitness activities.
This event is a great opportunity to explore your local Scanlon Creek Conservation Area, which offers diverse hiking trails, covered picnic pavilions, an off-leash dog park, a playground, and unique lookout points for birders and photographers. There are five different trails that vary in difficulty and terrain, such as a boardwalk through the marsh, where you can see wildlife including ducks, herons, and beavers. Scanlon Creek offers a wide variety of forests, wetlands, meadows, and wildlife, and it’s only a 10-minute drive from the centre of town.
Although there is normally a parking fee, the fee has been waived and parking will be free for the event.
“I am thrilled to welcome back Trails Day and the Mayor’s Hike for Health to BWG! Whether you have lived in BWG for years or are new to our community, I invite all community members to come out, enjoy the outdoors, and learn more about Scanlon Creek Conservation Area, which has been a local outdoor oasis and community staple for decades.” – Mayor James Leduc
