In celebration of International Trails Day and its goal to promote the importance of hiking trails, healthy lifestyles, and outdoor recreation, the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury is hosting its Annual Trails Day and the Mayor’s Hike for Health on Saturday, June 1, 2024.
Join Council, staff, and local hikers at Scanlon Creek Conservation Area from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, to learn about the area during a guided hike from staff at the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority. This family-friendly event is free to attend and will feature a barbeque lunch (hamburgers and hot dogs), live music, and activities like children’s entertainment, outdoor games, and family fitness.
“Whether you’re an experienced hiker or simply want to enjoy some time outdoors, I welcome all residents to join your local Council for our Annual Trails Day and the Mayor’s Hike for Health. This event offers our residents and their family and friends an opportunity to get out, get active, and get close to our local natural environment.” – Mayor James Leduc
This is a great opportunity to explore Scanlon Creek Conservation Area, which offers diverse hiking trails, covered picnic pavilions, an off-leash dog park, a playground, and unique lookout points for birdwatchers and photographers. Scanlon Creek features five different trails that vary in difficulty and terrain, including a boardwalk through the marsh where you can see wildlife like ducks, herons, and beavers; as well as a wide variety of forests, wetlands, meadows, and wildlife. Best of all, this natural gem is located right in our backyard and only a ten-minute drive from the centre of town.
Parking at Scanlon Creek Conservation Area is complimentary for this event only.
Trails Day takes place rain or shine, so please dress appropriately for the occasion. For more information on the event, please visit www.townofbwg.com/TrailsDay.
