Persian Heritage Month

WHEREAS: Canada is enriched by the cultural diversity of its population, including more than 200,000 people of Persian descent, with a significant number residing in Ontario. The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury is proud to be a part of this multicultural tapestry; and
WHEREAS: The Persian community in Bradford West Gwillimbury has significantly contributed to the town's vibrant culture, economic growth, and social fabric. Through their rich history, traditions, and values, Persians have enhanced the community's diversity and inclusiveness; and
WHEREAS: The Persian New Year, Nowruz, celebrated in March at the vernal equinox, symbolizes rebirth and renewal, reflecting the universal values of peace, solidarity, and respect for nature; and
WHEREAS: The contributions of the Persian community have become an integral part of Bradford West Gwillimbury's identity, enriching its cultural, economic, and social landscape. The town acknowledges and celebrates the achievements of its Persian residents, who continue to play a vital role in its development and prosperity; and
WHEREAS: This proclamation is made with special attention to the Barrie Persian Association, which has been instrumental in promoting Persian culture, heritage, and community spirit within Bradford West Gwillimbury and beyond. The Association's efforts in fostering cultural exchange and understanding are commendable and worthy of recognition; and
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That His Worship Mayor James Leduc and Members of Council proclaim March 2024, as Persian Heritage Month in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury.
