BWG Proclaims Black History Month 2024

Black History Month

February, 2024

WHEREAS: Black History Month is a time to learn about the stories and many important contributions of local Black Canadians to the settlement, growth, and development of Simcoe County, and about the diversity of Black communities in Canada and their importance to the history of this country; and

WHEREAS: The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury encourages people throughout our community to recognize Black History Month as an opportunity to embrace diversity and foster belonging and inclusion; and

WHEREAS: During Black History Month, Canadians celebrate the many achievements and contributions of Black Canadians who have and continue to do so much to make Canada the culturally diverse nation it is today; and

WHEREAS: Council of the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury unequivocally states that Black Lives Matter and acknowledges that systemic racism exists in our community; and

WHEREAS: On this day, we proudly raise and fly our local Anti Racism Flag, thoughtfully designed and created by Impact Youth. Council proudly stands in solidarity with our Black community and is committed to taking the necessary steps to eradicate racism and end discrimination in BWG, and beyond.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That His Worship Mayor James Leduc and Members of Council proclaim February 2024, as BLACK HISTORY MONTH in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury.
