BWG’s Building Division Presents $500 donation to the Helping Hand Food Bank on Behalf of the OBOA’s Simcoe Chapter
On Tuesday, December 12, BWG’s Building Division presented a $500 cheque to the Helping Hand Food Bank on behalf of the Ontario Building Officials Association’s (OBOA) Simcoe Chapter.
During their last meeting, the OBOA’s Simcoe Chapter announced that BWG’s Building Division was selected to receive a $500 donation to present to a charity of their choice. The Building Division chose the Helping Hand Food Bank as the recipient of these generously donated funds.

“We chose the Helping Hand Food Bank because they have always done so much for the community of BWG, and we know that more people than ever rely on local Food Banks to put food on their table – this was our department’s way of helping to make that possible. – Willy Wong, Chief Building Official, Town of BWG
Employees of the Building Division, Carolyn Khan (Executive Director at the Helping Hand Food Bank), and members of Council met at the Food Bank’s new soon-to-be home at 177 Church Street to present the donation.
“I am incredibly honoured to see how much our staff cares about the community – and this is a perfect example of that. Reliance on Food Banks is at an all-time high across the country and in BWG, our local Food Bank has seen a 300% increase in client visits since 2020. It is truly heartening to see our community and our staff come together in times of hardship and do what they can to support those who need it most.” – Mayor James Leduc
“We are grateful for the program offered by the Ontario Building Officials Association’s (OBOA) Simcoe Chapter that allowed BWG’s Building Division to donate $500 to us. Food insecurity is increasing at an alarming rate right here in Bradford West Gwillimbury. In fact, we have never seen such a demand for our services than we have these past few months. This is why we are especially grateful for donations like this that will help us continue to support people in Bradford when they need it the most.” – Carolyn Khan, Executive Director at the Bradford Helping Hand Food Bank
