Thursday, April 11 marked a significant milestone in addressing the pressing needs of our aging population as LOFT Community Services celebrated the commencement of the redevelopment of Bradford House. This event, attended by Mayor James Leduc, Bradford House residents, staff, project partners, and supporters, signaled the beginning of an exciting journey.
The new property, situated at 31 Frederick Street, will replace the current Barrie Street location with a larger, modern, and accessible facility. Once completed, the expanded residence will double the capacity of Bradford House, providing affordable and supportive housing to 99 individuals in need.
Bradford House plays a vital role in the community by offering housing and tailored support services to at-risk seniors and older adults grappling with mental and physical health challenges, substance use, poverty, and homelessness. With a growing waiting list and the rapid expansion of Bradford West Gwillimbury, the redevelopment comes at a crucial time.
LOFT is collaborating with the local community, donors and government partners to finance the expansion. This concerted effort includes fundraising initiatives, potential proceeds from the sale of property, ensuring the new development’s viability and sustainability.
The redevelopment process prioritizes the needs of current and future residents, ensuring their voices are heard every step of the way.
As construction progresses, Bradford House remains committed to its mission of providing a safe haven and comprehensive support to at-risk seniors and older adults in our community, ensuring they live with dignity and independence.
