2023 Jewish Heritage Month

Proclamation

JEWISH HERITAGE MONTH: May 2023

WHEREAS:

Jewish Heritage Month was officially recognized by the Federal Government in March 2018; and

WHEREAS:

the Jewish community has long played a central role in the fight against discrimination in Canada; and

WHEREAS:

in search of better opportunities and lifestyles, many people of Jewish heritage made their way to Canada, their new home base, finding in it a space where they could openly practice their faith and lead their lives freely without the fear of persecution; and

WHEREAS:

during Jewish Heritage Month, we celebrate the important contributions that Jewish Canadians have made to Canada’s social, economic, political and cultural fabric; and

WHEREAS:

by designating the month of May as Jewish Heritage Month, this provides an opportunity to remember, celebrate and educate future generations about the inspirational role that Jewish Canadians have played and continue to play in, not only our community, but communities across the country.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That His Worship Mayor James Leduc and Members of Council proclaim May 2023 as JEWISH HERITAGE MONTH in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury.
