A Hawkers and Peddlers Licence is required for every person who goes from place to place or to a particular place with goods, wares, merchandise or services for sale (please see end of this section for info on banned door-to-door sales).
The Hawkers and Peddlers Licence is valid for one (1) year and expires on January 31st annually. The fee for the licence is $75 or $70 for a renewal (charges from external agencies may apply).
You Are Required to Submit:
- A completed Application Form.
- A Police Records Check (dated within 90 days and received from the Police Service where you reside)
- Photo identification (driver's licence or passport are accepted).
- Registered business information.
- Proof of Canadian citizenship, permanent residence, or eligibility to work in Canada.
- A certificate of general liability insurance ($2,000,000 minimum).
- Zoning approval if stationary (to verify Zoning compliance please contact BWG's Planning Division at 905 775 5369 ext. 1400).
- Site plan (if stationary).

Door-to-door Sales
As of March 1st 2018, a ban on unsolicited door-to-door sales on select products and services came into effect in Ontario. This means that certain products and services can no longer be offered or sold at your home.

There are some exceptions to the ban including where you already have a contract in place or if you, the consumer, initiate the transaction (calling or emailing a business to come to your home).
