After serving as Councillor of Ward 1 for twelve years (2010-2022), Raj Sandhu was elected as the Deputy Mayor of Bradford West Gwillimbury (BWG) in 2022.
Sandhu and his family made the move to BWG in 1989, recognizing it as a great town to live and raise a family in. Alongside his wife Rana, they have proudly raised three children who are proud to call BWG their hometown.
Deputy Mayor Sandhu’s dedication to the local community spans beyond a role on Council. Since settling in BWG, he has dedicated countless hours to volunteering for various community agencies and initiatives. Notably, he served as the Vice President of Nottawasaga Futures, a local community economic development organization. Sandhu also currently serves as Chair of the Strategic Projects Advisory Committee, he was also one of the founders of the BWG Diversity Group, and a previous member of the Bradford Lions Club.
In his professional life, Sandhu has been employed with Camslide Manufacturing (a division of Magna International) since 1994, in various roles along the way. His experiences in manufacturing have instilled a deep appreciation for the value of hard work, customer service, perseverance, and teamwork as essential elements for achieving success.
In his role as Deputy Mayor, Sandhu is committed to continually serving BWG’s residents and supporting Council’s strategic priorities – community safety and traffic congestion, infrastructure and major access roads, economic development, downtown and urban renewal, and enhanced recreation and leisure services/facilities. He has consistently demonstrated a high level of dedication to his constituents by promptly addressing issues and fostering a transparent, welcoming, and accepting environment where concerns and suggestions are valued.
